Heatwave claims over 20 lives in Telangana districts

Over 20 people reportedly died of sunstroke in last 20 days in Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.

KHAMMAM: Over 20 people reportedly died of sunstroke in last 20 days in Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts. On Sunday, four persons died across districts. A majority of those who died of sunstroke are from rural areas.

According to information, hundreds of people are undergoing treatment for sunstroke in government and private hospitals in the district. People blame officials for not taking precautions and not providing proper treatment in Primary Health Centres.

Though officials say that ORS and other medicines are kept ready in government hospitals and PHCs, adequate medicines are unavailable.

District medical and health officials are advising people to not come out after 10 am. K Narasimha Rao, from Khammam said it is pity that children are also suffering. Victims blame private hospitals for looting them.

Khammam witnessed the highest temperature of 44 degrees Celsius on Sunday while it was same in Kothagudem and Manugur and 43 degrees in Bhadrachalam.
