Over 140 cases registered against liquor shop owners in Telangana districts

The officials registered a total of 147 cases against owners of liquor shops. Of them, 63 cases were registered in Hyderabad district.

HYDERABAD: The Vigilance and Enforcement officials of the Excise and Prohibition department carried out raids on liquor shops across Hyderabad and Rangareddy on Friday and found irregularities in the functioning of permit rooms set up by liquor outlets.


The officials registered a total of 147 cases against owners of liquor shops. Of them, 63 cases were registered in Hyderabad district. The government had decided that every shop in the state can avail the facility of setting up a permit room adjacent to it so that the problem of drinking on the roads can be curbed.


“During the course of time, it has come to the notice that these permit rooms have been indulging in irregularities and the department has launched a drive against them,” officials said.


The officials also requested the public to inform any  violations or irregularities either found in the shop or permit room or regarding  any other crime at the toll free number - 18004252523.

Rules to be followed

As per the rules under Telangana Excise Grant of Licence and Licence Rules, 2015 (Rule 25, 26) the grant of permit room is given on certain stipulations like — size of shop should be not less than 20 sq m and more than 100 sq m, there should be no provision of tables and chairs, food should not be supplied, lose sale of liquor is not allowed, premises shall be at least 100 mts away from places of public worship, educational institutions and sanitation facilities should be provided.
