HYDERABAD: Denizens in 72 urban local bodies (ULBs) across Telangana can now find reliable household services at the push of a button. For instance, if you are finding it difficult to find electricians, plumbers, fitters, carpenters, cooks, painters, lighting and other decorators, and other services, ‘Urban Genie’ is the solution. ‘Urban Genie’ is an Android-based mobile app that bridges the gap between citizens and service providers, and job-seekers and employers in Telangana urban areas with effective monitoring and communication system to ensure proper service delivery.
The Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), a wing of the department of municipal administration and urban development (MAUD), is going to launch ‘Urban Genie’ which is under development now, MEPMA director T K Sreedevi has said. By downloading this app citizens can request for services in their respective areas of an ULB. When such requests are placed, they are auto-forwarded to the local City Livelihood Center (CLC) of the municipality.
Basing on the area and type of service required, the CLC will send trained and verified service provider and skilled professionals to the house. Citizens who availed their service would also be asked to give their feedback on the service to facilitate MEPMA to provide better services, she added.This app also enables the urban jobless people to register with their personal details, skills and preferences, and the MEPMA can help them get employment. Thus, the app would help people get affordable and dependable household services at their doorstep and also help unemployed skilled workers vocation, Sreedevi said.
