HC allows AP to acquire lands in capital region

While permitting the Andhra Pradesh government authorities to go ahead with the process of acquiring the petitioners’ lands situated at Kuragallu village in Mangalagiri mandal in Guntur

HYDERABAD: While permitting the Andhra Pradesh government authorities to go ahead with the process of acquiring the petitioners’ lands situated at Kuragallu village in Mangalagiri mandal in Guntur district, the High Court has directed the authorities not to publish the final award for the notified lands in the village till January 20 next year and directed them to file counter affidavits in the case.

Justice A Rajasheker Reddy passed this interim order in a case filed by B Varalakshmi and several others from Guntur seeking stay of all further proceedings pursuant to the notice issued by the special deputy collector (land acquisition) in September this year. The subject lands were required for construction of the capital city development project by APCRDA.

Petitioners’ counsel P Sudhakar Reddy pointed out that the appointment of an agency to conduct the social impact assessment survey was done in violation of the provisions of Land Acquisition Act 2013. The judge permitted the authorities to proceed with the process but restrained them from publishing the final award till January 20.
