Khammam student ends life in Gurgaon, foul play suspected

Manideep, a first year BTech student at BML Munjal University from Khammam was found dead in his hostel room.

KHAMMAM: Ranga Manideep, a first year BTech (mechanical) student at BML Munjal University from Khammam town was found dead Thursday morning in his hostel room in Gurgaon having reportedly committed suicide. The university claimed that he was under academic pressure as he had failed to clear four subjects in his first semester, but the student’s family has blamed his death on harassment by seniors, even suspecting foul play.

The 18-year-old Manideep is the son of Krishna Rao, a small trader in Khammam town, and Latha. The family hails from Wyra. After completing intermediate, Manideep first joined a private engineering college in Bengaluru but then shifted to BML Munjal University. In his first semester, Manideep failed to clear four subjects. University authorities told Manideep’s family that this may have led to his suicide. However, his cousin Babu said Manideep had complained about harassment from seniors and unfriendly atmosphere on campus.

“Manideep came to Khammam a week ago to attend a family function. He complained of senior students harassing juniors and also some ‘outside’ elements entering the campus and disturbing the atmosphere,” Babu claimed. Babu added: “He wanted to attain great heights in his career.”

The family also alleged that the university authorities had failed to address problems faced by the students there.
