HYDERABAD: The government gave its consent for the construction of Regional Ring Road for a stretch of 338 km.

Reviewing the progress of construction of various roads in the state on Friday, Roads and Buildings minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said, “City has been expanding at a rapid speed. The present outer ring road will not be adequate enough for the city. We have sent a proposal to the Centre for the construction of another ring road. The Centre responded positively and agreed for the construction of 338-km long regional ring road around Hyderabad,” he said.

The construction of regional ring road will be a prestigious project for the Roads and Buildings department, the minister said.

Nageswara Rao said that the Centre recently has given its nod for 2,132 km long national highway in the state. The detailed project reports for all these roads will be prepared soon, he said.

He said that the outer ring roads will be constructed connecting Suryapet-Khammam-Kodad, Warnagal-Hyderabad, Suryapet-Mothe-Nayakangudem-Kusumanchi roads. These bypass roads will ensure road safety for the passengers, Nageswara Rao said.

On the slow progress of construction of some roads in the state, Rao expressed ire over the officials and directed them to take stern action against contracting agencies and consultants for the delay. He also reviewed the progress of the construction of national highways taken up with the help of Central government’s funds of Rs 2,690 crore.

The State so far received Rs 1,020 crore under Central Road Fund (CRF). Tenders for CRF works will be called for soon, the officials informed the minister.
