Telangana banks to go on mass strike on February 7

Bank officials said they are forced to go on strike after muted response from the Reserve Bank of India to their questions on demonetisation.

HYDERABAD: Banks across Telangana will go on a strike on February 7 as part of the call given by bank unions for a nation-wide strike on the day. Bank officials said they are forced to go on strike after muted response from the Reserve Bank of India to their questions on demonetisation.

Bank unions will go on mass demonstrations, protesting before RBI offices across the country starting January 30. “On February 7, we will go on a mass strike,” said B Seetha Rambabu, general secretary, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Bank Employees Federation (APTBEF).

The bank officials have been alleging that more cash was allocated to private banks than to public sector banks.
Bank unions also allege that favouritism was shown to BJP-ruled states to ensure that more cash was diverted there.

“The RBI must reveal how much money have they diverted to each state to come clean on the allegation that they have favoured BJP ruled states,” said Rambabu.
