Focus now on 9K-odd traders who pay 94 per cent GST in Telangana

The commercial taxes officials will also help the remaining traders, who contribute Rs 8 crore, in filing returns.

HYDERABAD: Though the actual revenue generated by the GST in the state will be known in December or January, officials are leaving no stone unturned to collect maximum taxes. For this, the commercial taxes department is focusing mainly on 9,000-odd traders who contribute 94 per cent GST in the state.

“The 9,000-odd traders contribute 94 per cent tax. The remaining 90 per cent traders will contribute just 6 per cent GST. So, we will mainly concentrate on these 9,000-odd traders. We have made all arrangements to reach our target,” sources in the department said.

Though traders will pay the first quarter of GST on August 20, a rough idea of the revenue will be known only at the end of September, officials said.

A car dealer in Nizamabad will pay IGST in Haryana. The state’s share in that IGST will come in September. “We will know rough estimates of GST only in the first quarter of September,” officials said, adding that clarity would emerge in December or January.

The officials explained that there were no apprehensions or doubts in the minds of these 9,000-odd traders who would contribute 94 per cent GST. The rest of the traders, who would contribute just Rs 8 crore, too would be extended help in filing returns by commercial taxes officials. The local-level sensitisation programme will continue further.Basing on last budget year’s commercial tax collection, officials said 9,274 traders paid Rs 13,610-crore tax.
