Cash-strapped GHMC to splurge Rs 3.84 crore on 20 new luxury cars

Despite reeling under severe financial crisis, the GHMC has decided to purchase 20 new vehicles for Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner, Zonal Commissioners, Additional Commissioners and Chief Engineers

HYDERABAD: Despite reeling under severe financial crisis, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to purchase 20 new vehicles for Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner, Zonal Commissioners, Additional Commissioners, Chief Engineers and Chief City Planner. The vehicles will be purchased with an estimated cost of Rs 3.84 crore. 

The GHMC Standing Committee which met under the chairmanship of Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Thursday has unanimously approved to purchase 20 new vehicles.With Standing Committee approving the proposals, it would be submitted  to the general body to accord permission and administrative sanction. 
GHMC would also recommend to the state government for according permission and sanction for procurement of vehicles.

GHMC officials said the corporation has different types of LV vehicles and most of these vehicles are very old and reportedly giving problems.  Some officials even complained that the vehicles were giving problems frequently and requested to provide new ones.However, as per government order, one Toyata Fortuner vehicle has been provided to Mayor through a private travel agency at the rate of `69,000 per month.

GHMC to procure one new Toyata Fortuner for commissioner costing J34.30 lakh, two new Toyata Innova Cresta, ZX-7 seater for mayor and deputy mayor costing around J23.16 lakh each while 17 new Toyata Innova Crest GX-7 costing  J17.85 lakh each
