PhD, MPhil results at KU to be announced only after a month

Reason for delay is stated to be demand by BC students that university reduce qualifying marks for them from 35 per cent to 20 per cent in the entrance exams.

WARANGAL: Kakatiya University students, who have been agitating for the past one month demanding the university authorities to declare the results of PhD and MPhil entrance exams by rectifying the marks goof up, have to wait for some more time for their results. The reason: As Backward Classes students are demanding that the university reduce qualifying marks for them from 35 per cent to 20 per cent in these entrance exams, the university authorities have decided to refer the matter to deans’ committee so that all the issues regarding the examination results could be finalised.

“We wanted to release the final key. Since the BC students’ issue came up, we have decided to refer it to deans’ committee. We don’t want any problem in future,” university Vice-Chancellor R Sayanna told mediapersons here on Tuesday. Sayanna, who completed one year in the office, said since the BC students are demanding reduction in qualifying marks, the university wants to do justice to all the students.

The V-C said the entrance results issue happened due to lack of technical facilities and infrastructure.
“We are now improving facilities in order to see that such things do not occur in future. We assure students that results would be declared in a transparent manner without scope for irregularities and mistakes,” he said.

Though the V-C did not announce the actual date of releasing of final key, sources said it would happen only in the end of August. Further, the V-C was forced to postpone university’s 21st convocation scheduled to be held on July 15, following PhD and MPhil entrance examination marks goof up and unrest in the varsity. “I was pained after we were forced to postpone the convocation. We would soon hold it,” he said.

According to the V-C, he was concentrating more on getting National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation for the university. “Once we get NAAC accreditation, the university standard would not only be enhanced but would receive lot of benefits in terms of financial assistance and other facilities,” he said.

Once the university is accorded NAAC accreditation, the University Grants Commission and other research organisations would allow research proposals to be submitted by the university for consideration so that they can provide grants for various research projects, he informed.

The NAAC team is visiting the university from August 28 to 30. “I am trying my best to get NAAC accreditation. If I succeed in this, the shape of university would change drastically,” the V-C said.
Giving details of new initiatives, he had undertaken after assuming charge, Sayanna said he introduced semester system in both post graduation and under graduate courses in the university. Besides, Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was also introduced in both PG and UG courses, he added.
