RAJANNA-SIRCILLA: Availability of large deposits of sand is attracting sand contractors to Rajanna-Sircilla district. According to Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC), about 1,29,69,793 cubic metre sand deposits exist in various sand reaches in the district. Every day around 1,000 sand-laden lorries transport about 1,35,000 cubic metre sand from Rajanna-Sircilla to different districts in the state for irrigation and government works.

Nearly eight villages in the district are going to submerge in the ongoing Mid-Manair Dam and the government decided to utilise sand deposits in these villages and directed TSMDC to sell it commercially or distribute it for free.

As many as 24,24,900 cubic metres and has been dug out till now from sand reaches and dispatched. For each cubic metre, TSMDC collects `600 from customers or contractors.

Sand transportation from Manair River at Kodurupaka, Anupuram, Kodimunja and Shabashpalli rivulet in Boinpalli mandal and Chintaltana, Cheerlavancha, Manwada, Rudravaram and Kasbhekatkur villages in Thangallapalli mandal is taking place.

To transport sand from sand reaches the government released two GOs No 54 and  11. Under GO 54 sand is sent for irrigation projects, Gudicheruvu renovation works in Vemulawada, Sripada Yellampalli, Indiramma Flood Flow Canal and Kaleshwaram projects. Under GO 11, sand is utilised for 2BHK housing scheme for GHMC, Hyderabad, Sangareddy and Siddipet districts. Sand from Mandepalli village in Rjanna-Sircilla is sent for 2BHK housing scheme.

Collector D Krishnabhasker told Express that the government’s intention is to utilise all the available sand deposits in the proposed submerged area under Mid Manair Project.  In view of this, sand transportation picked up and irrigation projects in other districts are also asking for sand from Sircilla sand reaches, he said.

Before the state bifurcation, Kazipur sand reach was famous in the state and now Sircilla sand reaches have occupied that place with good quality sand for construction.
