Warangal cops rescue Kadapa woman sold to Saudi Sheikh for Rs 2 lakh

Warangal police rescued a 40-year-old woman from Lakshmipuram village in Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh from the clutches of a Sheik in Riyad.

WARANGAL: Warangal police rescued a 40-year-old woman from Lakshmipuram village in Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh from the clutches of a Sheik in Riyad.   Thanks to the initiative of city police commissioner G Sudheer Babu and his team members headed by DCP East Zone, Md Ismail, who with their network traced the agents and made them bring the woman back safely to India.

It all started when a video sent through WhatsApp was received by Warangal urban collector Amrapali Kata in which the woman Subhalakshmi pleaded to rescue her from the clutches of a Shiek in Riyad, who had confined her to a bathroom and was harassing her. The collector forwarded the video to Sudheer Babu, who immediately responded and formed a team to rescue the woman.

The task was entrusted to DCP Ismail, who had worked in Hyderabad. The team first traced the three agents who had sent the woman to Riyadh. The agents called their contacts in Riyadh and convinced the Shiek to release the woman. The agents paid an amount of `2 lakh to Sheik to get the woman released and even bore her travelling expenses.

The woman told mediapersons in Warangal that she paid `80,000 to three agents Gilani, Venkateshwar and Vali  to secure a domestic help job in Saudi Arabia, but they instead of sending her to that country sold her to a Riyad-based person, who in turn sold her to a Shiek, Abdulla,  for `2 lakh in February this year. Ever since she landed in Riyad, she was subjected to various kinds of harassment and was confined to a washroom.

“My health was deteriorating as I was not given proper food to eat and was surviving on water available in bathroom. Luckily, a person from Ghana helped me record a video asking people to help me. He sent the video through WhatsApp to my younger brother and he forwarded it in all groups and social media. My video was noticed by Warangal police commissioner, who rescued me from the Sheik,”  she said.
