HYDERABAD:  A PIL petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the decision of Telangana power sector companies to absorb the outsourced personnel working under the private contractors of state’s Genco, Transco and Discoms into regular posts.

Petitioner M Sravan Kumar, an unemployed engineering graduate from Warangal, submitted that the authorities concerned started the process of absorbing outsourced persons to fill 23,699 regular posts ranging in the power companies. The companies issued notifications for absorbing outsourced personnel and committees were constituted to scrutinise applications. Though these outsourced persons were in no way connected with power sector companies, the decision taken by the authorities was a blatant violation of law, he noted.

Stating that the action of the authorities would deprive the right to compete for employment of unemployed youth, the petitioner urged court  to suspend the operation of the impugned proceedings of the power sector companies and to declare the decision of the authorities as arbitrary and illegal. State chief secretary, principal secretary (energy), and chairmen and managing directors of Transco, Genco and Discoms were named as the respondents. The matter is expected to come up for hearing on Tuesday.
