HYDERABAD: Even as people, near and dear, flocked to the small house on the streets of Bolakpur in Musheerabad, and patiently waited outside under a makeshift tent, little did seven-year-old Mohammad Rehan Hussain know that his father Mohammad Tayyab would never return with ice cream, as was he was promised.

Tayyab was among the 10 persons who were killed in a bus accident near Vijayawada on Tuesday early morning. Rehan and his three siblings on Tuesday continued to play cheerfully unaware of their father’s death.

Tayyab and his friend and partner, Ahmed Hussain boarded the bus from Vijayawada. As scrap metal workers and sellers by profession, they had gone to the city for a business errand. Ahmed survived the accident with a fractured leg.

“We learned about his death today morning around 8 am. Ahmed was travelling with Tayyab and he called and informed us about the accident,” said Abdul Karim, Tayyab’s cousin.

“The television channels are showing his body on repeat, we have made sure his wife does not watch television.  She is distraught,” said Karim. Tayyab was the sole bread winner for the family, he was also taking care of his widowed sister and her two schoolgoing  children.
