Telangana to tap Rs 4000 crore more under Centrally Sponsored Schemes

To launch a website and appoint nodal officer for regular monitoring of fund flow and expenditure

HYDERABAD: Determined to tap an additional `4,000 crore in 2017-18 from the Centre under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), the state government has decided to launch a website and appoint a nodal officer in the finance department for regular monitoring of fund flows and expenditure.

Chief secretary SP Singh, during his two-day recent tour of Delhi, met officials of as many as 19 ministries of Union government with the mission to tap more central funds for the state under CSS. Currently, TS is receiving around `9,000 crore from the Centre under CSS.

After his return from Delhi, Singh directed the officials to launch an exclusive website on receiving more Central funds and also monitoring their expenditure at the state level. More Central funds would help the state  implement various welfare schemes, an official said.

The chief secretary also directed the officials to conduct monthly meetings on the fund flow and expenditure under CSS. The proposed website for CSS would enable the officials to monitor the flow of funds from the Centre, release of matching grants from the state government and the progress of works. The state government also asked all officials to submit utilisation certificates for works executed with  central funds.  The state receives Central funds mostly for departments of panchayat raj and rural development, health, education, and women and child Welfare. According to sources in finance department, the state released `1,500 crore in February for Centrally Sponsored Schemes.

Chief Minister KCR is very particular about tapping more Central funds and state government, in anticipation of funds, announced cash scheme for  pregnant women, an official said.
