Server crash stalls hall ticket downloads day before exams

A day before the commencement of exams,  diploma students of Telangana State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET) were left in the lurch when they could not download their hall tickets.

HYDERABAD: A day before the commencement of exams,  diploma students of Telangana State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET) were left in the lurch when they could not download their hall tickets.
As many as 1.3 lakh students of three-year diploma courses in architectural assistantship and automobile engineering will appear for exams scheduled to begin from Friday.
“The server had crashed probably because of large number of students and colleges trying to download the hall tickets. The moment we realised that the server had crashed, we tried to rectify the snag,” said D Venkateswarlu, secretary of SBTET. The server that crashed in the morning, was finally restored after 6 p.m. on Thursday.
‘‘A day before the exam, I should have been revising my subjects. Instead wasted half-a-day trying to figure out what will I do if I don’t get my hall ticket,’’ rued Sai Swathi, a first year student of Government Polytechnic, Masab Tank. “We are required to pay examination fee well in advance. But they issue hall tickets only a day before the exam,”  Gautham from TRR College of Technology, Meerpet, said.
College officials too were a harried lot as they needed the hall tickets to be able to match the details of the students. “We have been trying to download but the server was down. Board officials told us that problem would be rectified by 5 p.m. We informed the same to the students and parents,” said Vasu, a system analyst from KN Polytechnic for Women.  The SBTET official said that they have a mechanism in place to deal with such contingencies in future.
