WARANGAL: Taking a dig at the claims of Congress that a Baahubali from within the party would emerge during the 2019 elections and lead the party towards a thundering majority, deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari said Congress is a dead party in Telangana and hoping to be rescued by a Baahubali shows their inability and desperateness to come to power.

“I don’t know which Baahubali Congress is talking about. But we already have a Baahubali in our party in the form of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Congress does not have the courage to take on him,” he asserted.

Speaking after launching the party’s membership drive at Warangal West Assembly Constituency on Sunday, Srihari said Congress has become weak and is trying desperately to win the confidence of people, and in that process, the party is making false claims about its strength and presence. “Congress has become nervous after seeing the development works and schemes launched by the TRS government and to divert the attention of people it is making false claims,” he said.

The deputy CM alleged that Congress leaders are creating hurdles to development of the State by going to courts on every issue. “They are trying to stall irrigation projects by approaching courts. They fear that if all the projects are completed people would not vote for Congress. They are misleading people on irrigation projects,” he alleged.

Describing 2017-18 budget as progressive and pro-weaker sections, he said the government had allocated over Rs 40,000 crore for various welfare schemes including Rs 14,000 crore for SCs, Rs 8,000 crore for STs and Rs 10,000 crore for BCs. “We have given top priority to welfare of various communities, agriculture and irrigation in the budget. Over Rs 25,000 crore has been allocated for the completion of various irrigation projects,” he added.

Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar urged the party cadre to take the government programmes and schemes to people.

“There is a need to tell people about various welfare initiatives being taken by the government. We should try to win confidence of people. This would help in strengthening the party,” he said.
