The total number of tuberculosis (TB) cases registered in Telangana is at par with the national average.

HYDERABAD: The total number of tuberculosis (TB) cases registered in Telangana is at par with the national average. The data released by the state government on Friday saw the annual total TB case notification rate rose from 115 in 2015 to 124.4 in 2016, just 0.6 shy from the national average of 125.

In 2004 the Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) was launched in the then combined state of Andhra Pradesh.

At an event held to mark the World Tuberculosis Day here on Friday, the data was released. It revealed that there has been a year-by-year increase in the number of drug-resistant TB patients in the state.

In 2016 there were 29,786 drug-resistant TB cases were recorded, 17212 cases more than those in 2015. The treatment success rate too appears to be falling.
