Telangana, Andhra Bank Employees’ Federation oppose privatisation of banks

The banking federations have opposed the statements advocating merger and privatisation of some public sector banks.

HYDERABAD: Bank Employees’ Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have opposed the statements made by the governor and deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India advocating merger and privatisation of some public sector banks and introduction of Voluntary Retirement scheme for drastic reduction of workforce in the banking industry.

The Federation said on Thursday that protest will be held in front of RBI building in Hyderabad on Friday at 5:30 pm and such protests will be held outside RBI offices across the country.

The federation said that instead of taking action against corrupt corporate defaulters the RBI governor and deputy governor are advocating privatisation and merger of public sector banks, which is a wrong move because as per Financial Stability Report published by RBI, 88pc of non-performing assets are contributed by corporate houses.

The federation said that the move proposed by the RBI heads will not only damage the banking for common people but also affect the Indian economy.
