New Act to provide fillip to Mallanna land acquisition

SIDDIPET:The State government is hoping that they can expedite acquisition of lands for the Mallanna Sagar Project (MSP) under the new land act which was passed in the Assembly recently.
Critics have slammed the TRS government for its land acquisition process. They believe that the state will acquire lands of farmers who want to give up them up voluntarily. Those who are opposed to it will be forced to give them up and compensation will be deposited in the court, as the State’s new law allows, they claim.

Well-placed sources said the State had given clear signals that lands will be acquired in a record time. It may be recalled that irrigation projects in Siddipet, Mahabubnagar and Karimnagar districts are pending due to farmers approaching the courts.
It may be recalled that court had stayed Government Order (GO) 123 which was passed to facilitate land acquisition. The KCR administration responded by passing state’s own Land Acquisition Act towards the end of 2016 in a special Assembly session. The Union government cleared the bill after its suggestion were accomodated by the TRS government.
Most of the process is complete except for Vemulaghat village of Thoguta mandal where 1,100 acres remains unacquired.
Irrigation officials said about 300 acres is yet to be acquired for Ranga Naik Sagar project.
