HYDERABAD: Telangana, with a population of about 3.46 crore, leads all other states in the country with 20 crore e-transactions.
Even the most populous state like Uttar Pradesh, which has a population of 9 crore, could achieve only 14 crore digital transactions. These are the findings bankers disclosed at a recent meeting of the bankers’ steering committee.

State Bank of India chief general manager Hardayal Prasad said, “About 400 villages in Telangana have turned into digital villages in quick time, which is an excellent achievement. The TS government is extending its full support to promotion of digital transactions.”
However, finance secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania observed that even now, a huge number of cash transactions were taking place every day. “At present, Telangana stands first in terms of the number of e-transactions,” he claimed. However, he emphasised the importance of creating basic infrastructure like Aadhaar/mobile number seeding with bank accounts for reaching the goal of cashless transaction. The task of seeding should be completed at the earliest. Telangana stood 11th in Aadhaar seeding (69 pc) and 21st in mobile seeding (81 pc) in the country, according to Sultania.
