BJP’s southern conquest to begin with Telangana, says Shah

BJP national president Amit Shah, who is on a three-day visit to the state on a mission to conquer Telangana, has chosen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship programme, Swachh Bharat, as the first salvo to fire at the TRS government, besides asking his party rank and file to begin saffron party’s “victory march” in South India from Telangana itself.

NALGONDA: BJP national president Amit Shah, who is on a three-day visit to the state on a mission to conquer Telangana, has chosen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship programme, Swachh Bharat, as the first salvo to fire at the TRS government, besides asking his party rank and file to begin saffron party’s “victory march” in South India from Telangana itself.

After visiting Theretpally and other villages in Nalgonda district on Monday, Shah came down heavily on the state government, saying that no initiative was taken by the state to construct toilets in these villages as part of Swachh Bharat.

Accusing the state government of giving short shrift to Swachh Bharat, the BJP president tried to highlight the lack of toilet facilities and drinking water supply in Theretpally to justify his argument that only the BJP can provide good governance and address all problems of the people.

While addressing his party’s booth-level workers’ meeting in the same village, Shah said, “The funds released for the execution of Swachh Bharat have not been fully utilised in the state. There is every need to elect the BJP in the state for overall development of TS.”

Interestingly, later, the BJP president had a lengthy meeting with about 1,000 intellectuals, who included doctors, engineers, IT professionals, teachers and advocates from across the state, at Nalgonda seeking their support to BJP’s efforts to  grow in the state.

“BJP played a key role in making people realise their dream of having their own state. The state is getting copious funds from the Modi government. If the BJP comes to power in the state, the fund flow from the Centre to the state will increase much more. Therefore, all of you should back our party’s efforts to emerge as an alternative to the TRS,” Shah appealed to the intellectuals.

‘Protest against quota for Muslims’
It is learnt that the BJP national president asked his party state leaders to organise large-scale agitations against the TRS government’s move to provide 12 per cent reservations to Muslims and its alleged failure to provide remunerative prices to agricultural produces such as chillies in order to woo the farming community.
