Forced to work in kitchen and clean toilets, SC Gurukul girl school students stage protest in Telangana

The students climbed the school building on Thursday morning and raised their voice against school principal Rajini who was also allegedly harassing the students by abusing them.

HYDERABAD: Allegedly forced to work in the hostel kitchen and clean toilets, girl students of a government-run social welfare residential school in Maddur mandal of Mahbubnagar district on Thursday staged a flash protest by climbing the building of their residential school.

The students of the Social Welfare Gurukul Residential School, which houses girls studying from Class VI to Class IX, said they were forced to work in the kitchen during the mornings and evenings.

"Apart from being asked to help cooks in cutting and peeling vegetables, we are sometimes asked to clean the toilets,'' said a class VI student who did not want to be named fearing a backlash from the school principal, Rajini.

The students climbed the school building on Thursday morning and raised their voice against school principal Rajini who was also allegedly harassing the students by abusing them with unparliamentary words.

When Maddur police received the information about the protest, they rushed to the school and convinced the children to come down and resume their regular activities.

Police officials have reportedly taken the statements of some of the students and were holding a meeting with welfare department officials. The school principal was not available for comment.
