Baba Ramdev wants Turmeric Board in Nizamabad

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the latter to set up a Turmeric Board in Nizamabad.

HYDERABAD: Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the latter to set up a Turmeric Board in Nizamabad. The letter is a follow up after Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha recently wanted Baba Ramdev to start turmeric unit under Patanjali brand.Speaking to media in Nizamabad on Wednesday, the Nizamabad MP said that Baba Ramdev writing a letter to the Prime Minister was a step forward in starting the turmeric board in Nizamabad.

She said that even as turmeric was part of the Indian culture, turmeric crop was considered as a commercial crop. Thus, the turmeric crop was not getting even minimum support price, Kavitha lamented.
All the problems of turmeric farmers would be solved only if the Turmeric Board was set up in Nizamabad, where large extent of turmeric crop was cultivated. Kavitha recalled that even Kerala, Assam and Maharashtra chief ministers too wrote letters to the Prime Minister to set up turmeric board.

Recently, Kavitha called on Baba Ramdev in Haridwar and requested the latter to start production unit of Patanjali based on turmeric. In response to this, Ramdev too requested the Prime Minister to start turmeric board. Till the turmeric board was started, the spices board official who was posted in Nizamabad would ensure that the turmeric farmers do not face any problems in selling their produce for reasonable prices, Kavitha said.
