HYDERABAD: Former minister and Congress leader Duddilla Sridhar Babu, who is playing an active role in the protests being organised by the Congress Party seeking fair compensation for the oustees of Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project, was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for allegedly trying to implicate a TRS leader in a drugs case.

The Hyderabad police registered the case after a complaint was lodged by TRS Mutharam mandal unit president Kishan Reddy in Peddapalli district. Reddy alleged that Babu was trying to implicate him in marijuana smuggling case.

As per the complaint, Sridhar Babu tried to trap Kishan Reddy by persuading his followers Sudarshan and Bhargav to keep the banned substance in Reddy’s house.

The purported conversation between Babu and his aides was produced as evidence. According to police, Babu instructed Sudarshan over phone to plant the marijuana at Reddy’s  premises in Mutharam mandal, saying he would later tip the police.

Denying the charges, Sridhar Babu said the TRS establishment was trying to implicate him as he was fighting for the rights of those ousted by the Kaleshwaram project.
