KHAMMAM : A Youth Congress leader was chased and hacked to death in broad daylight in Khammam district on Friday morning. The incident took place when the deceased was having breakfast in a hotel. The assilants initially sprayed chilli powder in his eyes, chased him and then stabbed him with the knives.
The victim, Vemuri Srinivasu alias Vasu, was the Mandal Youth Congress leader of Annapureddypally. The murder took place in Yerragunta, the native village of the victim. Vasu’s family members, alleged that political enmity could be the reason behind the murder, but  police suspect enmity with a contractor Srinivasa Rao, who is also a  TRS leader.

Cases have been registered against five persons, Polakampalli Srinivasa Rao, a contractor and TRS party leader, Boinapalli Gopinath, mandal praja parishad vice president, Ravu Ramesh, M Pradeep and Bionapalli Sudhakar, DCCB vice chairman.Locals said, accused Srinivasa Rao and Vasu were friends earlier, but.Vasu started filing complaints against the contractor and this created further rift.

Police said three years back, Srinivasa Rao planned to kill Vasu with the support of Ravu Rajesh and hired contract killers from Vijayawada to kill him. But Vasu got to know about their plan and lodged a complaint. Vasu filed another petition and managed to get a stay order with respect to `4 crore worth work that Srinivasa Rao got. With this, the accused decided to kill Vasu and executed the plan, police said. Vasu’s wife alleged that police officials too were involved in the murder of her husband.
