HYDERABAD: For the past one month or so, the state BJP leaders went hammer and tongs about the importance of Telangana ‘Liberation’ Day and the failure of the TRS government to celebrate the occasion officially. BJP state chief Dr K Laxman went on a state-wide tour while other party leaders too had whirlwind tours of the state explaining the TRS’s reluctance to celebrate the day officially alleging that the pink party was playing to the tunes of the MIM.

The month long drama, however, ended as an anti-climax, the party leaders said as the party’s bigiwg and union home minister Rajnath Singh’s address to the impressive gathering at the party’s Sankalpa Sabha at Nizamabad did not have a word against the TRS government for not celebrating the ‘liberation’ day.
“We expected some fireworks by the firebrand leader but he focussed more on talking about how Telangana was liberated and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government’s initiatives,’’ a party leader said.

Interestingly, it was only the state leaders who took on the TRS government. Starting from national executive member P Muralidhar Rao to BJP state president K Laxman and BJLP leader G Kishan Reddy, every speaker tore into the TRS and its chief K Chandrasekhar Rao on their stand of not celebrating the day officially. But, Rajnath Singh’s speech did not had a mention of the TRS government.
Another leader opined that the stand of the party central leadership and the state leadership is keeping the cadre guessing. “This is not the first time that the national leaders’ stand is varying with that of the state leaders,’’ the leader said.

While the state leaders are trying to grab every opportunity to put the ruling party in a tight spot, the visits of union ministers are becoming a matter of concern for the party.
“Even during his recent visit to the state, Bihar’s deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi visited a police station in Hyderabad and heaped praises on one of the TRS government’s pet scheme, Mission Bhagiratha. On the other side, the state leadership is alleging largescale corruption in the state’s prestigious flagship programmes,’’ the leader said.

The party leaders were in a tight spot last year when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the city to launch the Mission Bhagiratha scheme and praised the scheme while the party national president Amit Shah launched a broadside for failing to tap funds under Centrally sponsored schemes and execute them.
