HYDERABAD: The state government will very soon announce a comprehensive scheme for the development of dairy sector to make ‘Ksheera Viplavam’ (Milk Revolution) in which dairy farmers from the Vijaya Dairy Development Society, Mulkanur Dairy Development Society, Nalgonda and Rangareddy Districts Dairy Development Societies and Karimnagar will be given top priority.

As a prelude, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday accepted the demand of dairy farmers of various societies for giving them Rs 4 per litre incentive as is being done in the case of the dairy farmers of Vijaya Dairy.

Rao also announced that the government, through Dairy Development Societies, would provide 50 percent subsidy for buying a buffalo by the farmer. The subsidy will be 75 percent if the dairy farmers happen to be from the SC/ST community. “In return, do me a favour. Every farmer should plant six saplings in his household and name each sapling after one of their family members and take care of the plants by watering regularly,’’ Rao said addressing a gathering of over 8,000 dairy farmers from Vijaya, Mulkanur, and Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy Districts Dairy Development Societies at Pragati Bhavan here.

Rao assured that the Rs 4 per litre incentive would be given from September 24  and the distribution of buffaloes would commence two months later. “Like in the sheep distribution scheme, beneficiaries themselves will identify and buy  buffaloes and subsidy will be routed through the dairy development societies,’’ he said.

Rao said all the three dairy development societies are together producing just about 7 lakh liters of now. Karnataka is supplying 6 lakh litres, AP 4 lakh litres and Gujarat 2 lakh litres to Telangana. The volume of milk being produced in Telangana  is very small vis-a-vis the demand, which is one crore litres.
