Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Corporation's Manager, superintending engineer get jail term

The judge passed the order on a contempt plea filed by Shankaraiah and five others who were security guards, telephone operator and others in APSPDCL, seeking action against the authorities.

HYDERABAD: Displeased with the failure of the authorities concerned to implement the court orders, justice P Naveen Rao of the  High Court on Wednesday sentenced the chief general manager (HRD) of Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited, Tirupati and the superintending engineer (operation circle), Kadapa district to 30 days of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 each in a contempt case. Besides, they were directed to pay Rs 20,000 towards expenses.

The judge passed the order on a contempt plea filed by Shankaraiah and five others who were security guards, telephone operator and others in APSPDCL, seeking action against the authorities for wilfully disobeying the court order given last year directing them to consider the cases of petitioners for regularisation of posts.Petitioners’ counsel R Sameer Ahmed pointed out that the authorities, instead of implementing the court order, had filed an appeal before the division bench.
