Depressed over Intermediate results, Four students end life in Telangana

Upset over the results of first-year Intermediate board examinations, four students of private colleges committed suicide on Friday.

HYDERABAD: Upset over the results of first-year Intermediate board examinations, four students of private colleges committed suicide on Friday. Achanta Vandana (16) was studying BiPC at Sri Chaitanya Junior College in Dilsukhnagar. Depressed over securing 73.86 per cent, she went into the bedroom and committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling fan. When her parents broke opened, she was found dead. A case of suspicious death has been registered.

At Kukatpally, 17-year-old Katraj Sai Kumar failed in four subjects in MEC stream. Sai Kumar, son of driver K Shekar was a resident of Khaitlapur in Moosapet. He was a student of MNR Junior College at Kukatpally. Kukatpally inspector V Prasanna Kumar said after the results were out, Sai Kumar became depressed, as he had failed in four subjects. However, Shekar consoled and counselled his son to not worry about the results and went for the job.

Later, his mother also left for her job, and the boy was alone at home. “When Shekar called his son at around 12.30 pm, he did not get any response and informed his neighbour to check. When his neighbour went to check on the boy, she did not get any response either. She broke opened the door and found Sai Kumar hanging to the ceiling. The boy was rushed to Anupama Hospital in KPHB, but was declared brought dead,” said the inspector. A case of suspicious death has been registered, he said.

In another incident at Jagadgirigutta, Muvva Sri Nithya (18), a first-year MPC student of Sri Gayatri Junior College in Chintal became upset as she had passed only in two subjects. Depressed, she jumped from the fourth floor of her building. A case under section 174 of CrPC has been registered for the probe, said the Jagadgirigutta police.

Dulam Varsha (16), was a student of CEC stream at Megha Junior College at Ramanthapur. On Friday, when her parents went for work, Varsha hanged to the ceiling as she had failed in all the subjects. A case of suspicious death has been registered for the probe, B Anji Reddy, Medipally inspector said.
