Andhra Pradesh government’s bid to sell assets irks Telangana

HYDERABAD:In a fresh row between two sibling Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh state has proposed to dispose off the assets of AP Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation (APSFTVTDC) which left Telangana fuming. Chief Secretary SK Joshi held an emergency review meeting with officials concerned at Secretariat on Tuesday and decided to write a letter to the AP not to go ahead of its plans on disposing the assets of the Corporation.

The AP government on Monday issued a GO constituting an eight member committee for the disposing of the fixed assets of the APAFTVTDC. The Committee is headed by AP State Planning Board vice-chairman C Kutumba Rao. However, the APFTVTDC was listed in the IX Schedule of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 and the demerger has not yet completed so far. The AP government constituted the committee for disposing-of the fixed assets i.e., a portion of the building located at AC Guards in Hyderabad, whose value runs into crores as per the market rates.

Knowing the plans of the AP government, TS Chief Secretary Joshi held a meeting a took stock of the situation.  According to sources, the TS government felt that the AP’s attitude was not in right direction. The TS Chief Secretary would write a letter to his AP counterpart not to take “unilateral” and “hasty” decisions with regard to the institutions and corporations listed in IX and X Schedules of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The bifurcation issues between AP and TS were still pending even after three and half years of the bifurcation. The Union Home Ministry called for a meeting on February 23 in Delhi. Officials of both the States will attend the meeting and the latest instance may also figure in the meet.
