Centre didn’t give enough time to prepare for Smart Cities: Telangana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan

Ranjan also said that technology companies are trying to force down the throat of Indian government solutions that are being implemented in cities in developed nations.

HYDERABAD: Information Technology Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, speaking during a session on Smart Cities at WCIT and NASSCOM ILF on Tuesday, said that he personally felt the Smart Cities project of the Central government was started without giving adequate time for preparation at the ground level.

Claiming that the Telangana government was working on its own way of implementing technological solutions in Hyderabad, the IT secretary said that the smart solutions must be successful at micro-level and for that, the State is identifying challenges in various departments like municipal, power and civil supplies. “This will help identify problems at ground level,” he added.

Ranjan also said that technology companies are trying to force down the throat of Indian government solutions that are being implemented in cities in developed nations, which would not necessarily work in the Indian settings.

He said that TS was doing away with regular ways of procurement of technology and solutions, and is giving chance to start-ups for providing technology-based solutions.
