HYDERABAD: The state government will plant as many as 100 crore saplings every year from next year, said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at a review on Haritha Haaram at Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday. The required nurseries should be developed in urban and rural areas across the state, he added.

“In Telangana, forest lands account for just 24 per cent of the land, and the actual forest cover is just 12 per cent. The tree plantation will aim at increasing forest coverage to at least 33 per cent. Since good rainfall has been predicted this year, tree plantation must be taken up on a massive scale.”

The state government will launch the fourth phase of Haritha Haaram this month and Rao also reviewed the arrangements for the same. The dates of launch of the fourth phase of Haritha Haaram are yet to be announced.
