LMD books seven petrol pumps across Telangana

Cases were booked against two pumps each in Sircilla and Nirmal, and one each in Hyderabad, Medchal, Bhongir, Suryapet, Bhadrachalam, and Medak.

HYDERABAD: Acting on complaints of tampering, adulteration and shortage of fuel in petrol pumps, Legal Metrology department officials conducted surprise raids and booked seven pumps for short delivery of fuel and three pumps for not renewing their licenses.

Cases were booked against two pumps each in Sircilla and Nirmal, and one each in Hyderabad, Medchal, Bhongir, Suryapet, Bhadrachalam, and Medak. The LMD initiated the raids all across the State in a measure to curb illegal practices.

In Hyderabad, Fortune fuel of Hindustan petroleum corporation ltd, Bharath service station of Bharath petroleum corporation limited were booked for short delivery of fuel by 300 ml while dispensing 5 litre diesel.

In all the raids, Indian oil corporation limited (IOCL) service stations were booked the most at various locations. Officials suspect that ethanol, a common substance mixed to petrol, is added in large quantity to concentrated petrol making it light.
