Telangana receives water from Almatti reservoir

HYDERABAD: In a major relief to Telangana, Almatti reservoir water started flowing to Narayanpur on Monday. As the Almatti reservoir in Karnataka was 80 per cent full on Monday, power generation started there from Monday. “The inflows into Almatti were recorded as 1.28 lakh cusecs. Through power generation, the officials released 25,000 cusecs on Monday,” TS irrigation officials said.  

If the current inflows into Almatti continue for two to three days more, Telangana will receive good inflows. As against its full reservoir capacity of 129.721 tmc, the project’s current storage on Monday is 103.13 tmc. With the heavy inflows from the upper stream of Almatti, the reservoir may overflow soon. The inflows on Monday morning were 1,11,467 cusecs and it further increased to 1.28 lakh cusecs in the evening. On an average, Almatti reservoir has been receiving 10 tmc water ever day for the last four days. Almatti reservoir storage on July 13 was 75.55 tmc, and the storage increased to 83.8 tmc on July 14. The storage further increased on July 15 to 93 tmc.
