HYDERABAD: Despite drastically slashing the inspection, registration and caution deposit amounts for affiliation of hostels in private and corporate colleges, it appears that the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has once again failed in its attempt to bring these institutions under its ambit.

With three days to go for the deadline, only eight colleges have paid the fee and 19 have filled up the application form. The revised notification, issued on July 7, stated that all affiliated junior colleges with residential facilities have to pay the fee by July 20.

TSBIE officials have hinted that the registration and subsequent affiliation process would be non-starter this academic year.

“Private colleges are not willing to come under regulation of the board. They feel that we are interfering in their affairs. This is absolutely wrong. Anyhow, we will wait till July 20 and then hold a meeting with college managements,” said  Abdul Khaliq, joint secretary (academics), TSBIE.

Meanwhile, V Narender Reddy, president of TPJMA, said they were unhappy with the stipulation of 40 sq ft area space per student. “The board has been particular about the area in rooms, dining halls, kitchen, playground, etc. We asked for 20 pc reduction in this aspect. But it is unwilling to reconsider this aspect. Further, 20 days is too short a time to get all the requisite certificates and clearances from different government departments,” said Reddy.

Colleges also want that renewal of affiliation for hostels should be once in five years instead of every year. But the TSBIE has turned down these demands.
