HYDERABAD: About two lakh goods-carrying trucks are set to go on an indefinite strike in the State, starting from Friday. The strike is against the increase in fuel prices along with a range of other demands raised by truck associations.
The call for the strike is in accordance to the nationwide protest call given by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).
The strike would start from 6 am Friday and would continue until an amicable conclusion is arrived upon between the government and the association. “Diesel prices have soared in the past few years. We want that to be checked upon. Besides, our strike is also to reduce toll prices that are exorbitantly charged even when trucks move empty,” said N Bhaskar Reddy, President, Telangana lorry owners association.
Earlier, on June 18, a section of truckers under goods vehicles umbrella body All India Confederation of Goods Vehicles Owners Association proceeded on an indefinite nationwide strike, protesting hike in diesel prices and other issues.
