HYDERABAD: In a relief to Congress leader and Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy, the High Court on Friday stayed all further proceedings in the defamation case filed against him before the lower court by industrialist A Rameshwara Rao.

Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy passed this order on a petition filed by Revanth Reddy seeking the stay of the proceedings pending before the court of the special sessions judge.

In 2015 Rameshwara Rao had filed the defamation case before the 17th additional chief metropolitan magistrate court over Revanth Reddy’s allegation that the Telangana government had allocated lands worth `2,000 crore to him free of cost. Later, the case was transferred to the special sessions judge.

While admitting the case, the special sessions judge opined that there was prima facie evidence. Aggrieved, Revanth moved the High Court.
