Do not drag us into MLA expulsion case: Telangana legislature, law secretaries

Pursuant to earlier direction by the court, the two secretaries have filed their counters in the contempt case filed by Congress leaders Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar.

HYDERABAD: Stating that they were unnecessarily being dragged into the controversy of the expulsion of two Congress MLAs from the state Assembly, the Telangana state legislature secretary and the state law secretary told the Hyderabad High Court that they were not vested with any such power or authority to implement the orders of the court.

They said that the ‘House’ enjoys unique and exclusive authority concerning the conduct of its members and that the matter pertaining to the two MLAs — Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar — comes under the sole purview and jurisdiction of the House and it alone was competent to take a decision in this regard.

“All matters relating to the members concerning their privileges and immunities are in the exclusive domain and jurisdiction of the august House”, the legislature secretary noted. Pursuant to earlier direction by the court, the two secretaries have filed their counters in the contempt case filed by Congress leaders Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar, who are under expulsion, against law secretary V Niranjan Rao and assembly secretary.

Agama council opposes telecast of  cleansing ritual: TTD

Hyderabad: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams told the High Court on Thursday that the Agama advisory council was against telecasting live and taking photographs of the Maha Samprokshanam programme scheduled for nine days next month. On an earlier occasion, the bench of chief justice TBN Radhakrishnan and justice V Ramasubramanian directed the TTD to take the view of the Agama advisory council on the issue.

HC dismisses plea against TTD deposit in private bank

In a relief to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, a division bench of the High Court on Thursday dismissed a PIL which challenged its decision to deposit Rs1,000 crore with a private bank. The bench said that IndusInd Bank, with which the TTD deposited the money, was a scheduled bank controlled by the RBI but remarked that in the wake of the Punjab National Bank scam it cannot be said that there was the safety of money deposited in nationalised banks.
