HYDERABAD: The Civil Supplies Department has linked their Consumer Information and Redressal Centre with the Legal Metrology Department.

The move aims at helping the consumers reach out to the department with their complaints. Hereafter, the public can also reach out to the department through social media platforms.
The public can now contact the Consumer Dispute and Redressal Centre under the CDS to register their grievances over Twitter and Facebook. Complaints that come under the domain of Legal Metrology Department will be diverted to the officials concerned. Interestingly, the Telangana Consumer Information and Redressal Centre will also start an Alternate Consumer Disputes Redressal System with an aim to redress the consumer grievances through dialogue, discussion and non-legal measures.

Under this Redressal System, a complainant can make a complaint on white paper or in the prescribed format supplied by the Centre free of cost. After receiving the complaint, a notice will be served to the respondent by giving a date to attend the counselling - conducted every Saturday - at the Centre. After hearing both parties, the cases will be settled with their consent. In case a solution is not reached even after three counselling sessions, the parties will be redirected to the District Consumer Forum concerned for settlement through legal measures.
In the last one month, the Legal Metrology Department conducted special raids on multiplexes, shopping malls, seeds, fertiliser companies and registered more than 600 cases.
