Notice to Telangana over appointment in edu body

Justice A Rajasheker Reddy was dealing with a petition filed by P Srinivas, a resident of the city, with a plea to restrain Justice Swaroop Reddy from functioning as the chairman of TAFRC.

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court has recently issued notices to the Telangana government and retired judge of high court Justice P Swaroop Reddy to respond to a petition filed challenging the latter’s appointment as chairman of the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC).

Justice A Rajasheker Reddy was dealing with a petition filed by P Srinivas, a resident of the city, with a plea to restrain Justice Swaroop Reddy from functioning as the chairman of TAFRC.

The petitioner submitted that the said appointment was made contrary to a judgement made by the Supreme Court in a case. Such committees should be constituted headed by a retired High Court judge who should be nominated by the Chief Justice of the state concerned.

In the present case, without nomination by the Chief Justice of the Hyderabad High Court, the state government had appointed the said judge. After hearing, the judge issued notices to the respondents - special chief secretary to education department, member secretary to TAFRC and Justice Swaroop Reddy, and adjourned the hearing.
