Telangana: Poll authorities demonstrate functioning of VVPATs

It gives instant feedback to the voter showing that the vote polled has in fact been allotted against the candidate chosen.

HYDERABAD: The state election authorities and the GHMC commissioner on Friday placed a demonstration on the functioning of VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) machines before the Judges of the Hyderabad High Court.

At a programme organised in the High Court premises, several judges witnessed the working procedure of VVPATs. The officials, who included State Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar, GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore and others concerned explained the functioning of these machines which would be used during the election process to verify that the vote polled by a voter goes to the correct candidate. It gives instant feedback to the voter showing that the vote polled has in fact been allotted against the candidate chosen.

The above issue has gained importance as a PIL case was recently filed by senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy seeking directions to the election authorities to take steps for conduct of forthcoming Assembly elections in a transparent manner.
