Makeover rejuvenates Olive

Lounges, bars and nightclubs need to redesign and create a new ambience to increase their longevity and that’s exactly what Olive at the Qutub went for to rekindle people’s interest.

On Wednesday night, ‘The Dirty Martini’—a speakeasy-inspired bar—was unfurled by A D Singh and Sabina Singh. It was a dramatic transformation from the earlier Mediterranean feel to a 1920s hedonistic look created by Sabina and Sumant Jaikishen. A D Singh explained, “First we launched the wildly popular Monkey Bar, one of India’s first gastro-pubs. Now the bar at Olive under the Qutub Minar is being re-invented as one of India’s first speakeasy-inspired bars”.

Interestingly the guest too dressed up in the ’20s look—men in tailcoats and women in flapper dresses. Jazz soloist Olga Andreeva and blues music by saxophonist Simon Hewitt entertained the guests.

Seen at ‘The Dirty Martini’ bash were Ashish and Misha Soni, Rajesh and Payal Pratap, the Mehra brothers—Shantanu and Nikhil, Amrish Kumar with his girlfriend, Christine, Nandita Basu, Poonam Bhagat, Gauri Karan, Sanjiv and Shelly Batra, Koel Purie and many more. Post Diwali, this has been the best-attended bash.
