Ernakulam district secretary of CPI(M) P Rajeev tells Shibu B S and Rajesh Abraham he's not contesting Assembly elections from Tripunithura.

What is your position on reports about your candidature?

In the first list sent by Ernakulam District Committee, my name was included. The State Committee decided that it was not a good move that the party secretary in an important district like Ernakulam plunges into polls. It’s not true that the second list sent to the State Committee had my name.

Is candidate selection process over?

We cannot say its over till the announcement of the final list. We hope that the State Secretariat will come up with the official announcement on March 26.

National politics in your strategy?

The politics of polarisation adopted by the Centre and the soft-Hinduvta stance by the Congress will be an election issue. So will corruption. We cannot write off the possibilities of a Congress-BJP consensus in some of the constituencies. Both the parties ideologically oppose the Left. BJP also counts LDF as its major political opponent.
