NEW DELHI: Custodians of the war on black money are themselves taking notes during raids. In seven days, Delhi Police has nabbed 10 colleagues for stealing Rs 59 lakh in old currency. Two cases have been registered against seven officers. In the coming week, three special staff of the Outer District are likely to fall in the net. Though no official advisory has been issued, Joint Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of Police have banned raids without informing senior police officials before. The raids should be entered in the daily diary as well. “The first illegal raid happened in the North West district where an SHO and his team raided a scrap dealer’s house without official sanction. “Statements of witnesses, including police staff at Jahangirpuri police station and neighbours recorded that the SHO and his team conducted an illegal raid and took away Rs 27 lakh.”

New Delhi: Other members of the police fraternity facing allegations of stealing cash after raids belong to the special staff of the Outer District. The accused had copied the SHO Jahangirpuri’s modus operandi. “The matter came to light on Thursday. They unearthed Rs 30 lakh during a raid, but didn’t inform their seniors about the quantity of money retrieved.”

An enquiry is on. Meanwhile, the traffic police is not far behind their comrades in pocketing unaccounted money. Three traffic police cops were dismissed after it was found that they extorted Rs 1.2 lakh in old currency. “One head constable and two constables stopped a car on November 22. They asked the driver to produce his driving licence. While he was looking around for it, one policeman noticed cash in the car. They threatened the driver and took all the money before letting him go,” police said. The victim informed the police and the guilty cops were arrested.
