Love, loss and longing define his music. A little bit of regret too has left an aftertaste. Saby Singh, a musician from Kashmir, who is performing at antiSOCIAL on November 27, cannot think beyond it. His expressions are born out of the dark side of romance, feelings of nothingness, a sense of denial, a need ‘to be’ and to start afresh. These emotions have harvested some deep revelations. “I like things to be ambiguous. You’ll never know the real me if you don’t hear my music. And even then, I leave a lot unsaid,” says Singh.
He hates having a plan B, just as he hates safe landing. “So what if something goes wrong?” he questions. “I’ll start afresh.”

The night will see an all-original set as he most enjoys playing his own compositions. “I will try delivering an act, a complete package, a feeling, not  just play random songs. Since I use only a guitar for rhythm and harmony for my vocals, things will be soft,” he says. He’ll be turning his set into something like a book, with a beginning, introducing characters, narrating the story and then presenting the climax.
While Singh loves performing solo, Parvaaz, a Bangalore-based rock band that will be accompanying him, gleans its identity by being a collective. It comprises Khalid Ahamed (vocals), Mir Kashif Iqbal (guitar), Fidel D’souza (bass) and Sachin Banandur (drums and percussions). “Our strength is to be one. Together we are perfect at what we do,” says D’souza.

The process of creating music for Parvaaz is typically a laborious one. “Riffs and melodies make their way through crashing rhythms and the guitar screams from time to time. After much iteration, we land up with something that meets our expectations,” D’souza says, hoping it meets the audience expectations too.
November 27, at antiSOCIAL, Third Floor, 9A and 12, Hauz Khas Village. 9:30 pm onwards.
