The information obtained by former additional director of backward classes (welfare) Mohammed Ikbal through an RTI has revealed that parts of Mysuru and North Kannada don’t have burial grounds. He sought the details after filing a PIL seeking directions to the Karnataka government to provide grounds in all villages. Disposing of the PIL, division bench of chief justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and justice Ravi Malimath asked him to submit a representation to revenue department principal secretary. “Non-availability of burial grounds is a violation of the Constitution. According to government, statistics indicate that 18,000 square feet land has to be reserved for a burial ground,” Ikbal says.
