NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections come on close heels of the BJP’s massive victory in the local body polls in a number of states, which included Maharashtra, Odisha, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Doubting Thomases were silenced after the saffron party scaled up the local body poll victories to the state levels.

The massive BJP wins in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are being seen within the party as force-multipliers for the municipal challenge in the national capital. BJP chief Amit Shah is keen to level the scores after being at the receiving ends in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections. Since migrants from UP and Uttarakhand constitute a large chunk of Delhi population, the BJP is hoping for the spill-over effect.

“Even if the BJP chief does not micro-manage the municipal polls, the party in-charge Shyam Jaju along with Manoj Tiwari are working with a well thought out to deliver a mortal blow to the Aam Admi Party (AAP) on the lines of its Goa and Punjab experiences,” said a senior BJP functionary.
