NEW DELHI: Delhi 6 could soon be the new arena of confrontation between Raj Bhavan and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following the long spell of calm after Najeeb Jung’s exit.

Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC), responsible for development of the area, is a non-starter since 2008. Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal is likely to remove Kejriwal as SRDC chairman next month and appoint his replacement.

The CM is the head of SRDC. But not a single meeting has been held since October 2015; nor any action initiated, hobbling the restoration of Chandni Chowk by developing the walled city. Last week, Baijal sought a status report from the Delhi government.

Said sources, “Since Kejriwal holds no portfolio nor official post, Manish Sisodia was made the chairman without the approval of L-G, who is the appointing authority.” Recently, the Delhi High Court had pulled up SRDC, ordering it to remove encroachments and illegal religious structures from Chandni Chowk. Delhi government refused to comment.
