NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police is going green. It has handed over RTI records from 2005 to 2012 weighing 2.2 tonne to be converted into recycled paper and file covers.

“For the first time, the Delhi Police headquarters has handed over old documents to get handmade paper. The work will be completed by next month,” said Farahat Ali, who has been asked to recycle the RTI records.

Earlier, the Delhi Police used to sell the documents as trash, but after getting an approval from the Special Commissioner, they will be recycled.

“There must be 60,000 RTIs, which were lying unused,” said a senior Delhi Police official. The force receives the highest number of RTI applications.
